<p>One of the most commonly asked questions about SM Campaigns is how to measure their success. There are plenty of sites out there that promise the silver bullet answer to quantifying the effectiveness of your SM Strategies but how do real companies measure the effectiveness of their activities. We’ll talk about the different measurements available that you should consider and in what scenarios they can be applied, the tools to use when first starting out and the metrics that are crucial when measuring success of any Social Media Campaign.</p>

<p>Last year <a class="zem_slink" title="Brian Shaler" rel="twitter" href="http://twitter.com/brianshaler">Brian Shaler</a> made a great tool that listed everyone who was attending <a href="http://sxsw.com/interactive" target="_blank">South By Southwest Interactive</a> (SXSWi) from the Phoenix area.  Arizona was well represented at SXSW, and the site helped everyone see where their friends were, what was going on, and keep on top of the great things local people were up to in Austin.</p>
<p>With the creation of Twitter Lists, this is a lot easier. We&#8217;ve made a list of <a title="Arizona SXSW 2010 Attendees" href="http://twitter.com/SMCPhoenix/sxsw2010/members" target="_blank">Arizona people attending SXSW in 2010</a>.  If you&#8217;re going but aren&#8217;t on the list yet, leave a comment here or send a reply to <a href="http://twitter.com/smcphoenix" target="_blank">@SMCPhoenix</a> and we&#8217;ll add you.  Then when you&#8217;re in Austin you can just <strong><a title="Arizona SXSW 2010 Activity" href="http://twitter.com/SMCPhoenix/sxsw2010" target="_blank">go to this page</a></strong> to see what all your local people are saying and doing around town.</p>

<p>The February 11th topic for Social Media Club Phoenix is a look at Government Uses of Social Media, which was taken from our <a href="http://smcphoenix.uservoice.com/" target="_blank">Uservoice forum</a>.  .</p>
<h2>BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE: How Social Should Governments Be Online</h2>
<p>On one hand, Governments exist to serve the people, so you might expect Social Media to be an easy engagement for them to make.  Unfortunately, things like open meeting laws, limited budgets, and stressed resources can make it a challenge.  We&#8217;re seeing unprecedented use of Social Media at the National level, both in the Presidential Campaigns and with a growing number of officials, but is it starting to trickle down to the local level?  YouTube has pulled together videos for the President to answer &#8211; could virtual town halls become the norm?  What about using Social Media for greater access to Government information and resources?</p>
<p>This is a huge topic, and I encourage everyone to come down and participate in this discussion. You do not need to be personally working with Government entities to have good ideas and input for the panel. This is an area of Social Media that does not get as much discussion as business applications, but is in some ways even more important to all of us.</p>

<p>The evening started off with Evo Terra leading SM101. He spoke at length about the recent Facebook privacy setting revisions, providing an excellent overview of how your data is made available to others and what you can do to ensure that you are only sharing what you want to share.</p>
<p>The Facebook deep dive panel, moderated by Jay Baer, dove right into the finer points of marketing using Facebook. We covered the details around the benefits and limitations of fan pages, the application developer ecosystem, search and the live feed and even spoke to the finer points of tagging. Of course, they also spent some time discussing how Facebook fits into your marketing strategy when it comes to brand loyalty and relationship management, providing some tips and tricks on content and connecting with your customers.</p>

<p>Instead of a normal panel meeting on November 12th, the Social Media Club Phoenix will be joining a mixer at the <a title="AZEC" href="http://azentrepreneurship.com/" target="_blank">AZ Entrepreneurship Conference</a>. Many people in SMC are attending the conference itself, but everyone else welcome to the mixer free of charge at 5:30pm.  It is a great chance to network and chat with other local professionals.  Our panel format will resume at Jobing.com offices in December.</p>
